I have access to full plugin automation, volume envelopes for track, items etc Using subproject, I can master using only my group bus channels (into the master)Īnd I can then open the master in a 'project mastering' session

Master with automation/Master using stems OR I can make my entire Drum Bus a sub project and achieve the same thing that way.Ģ. So in reaper, I just record the audio input to the channel, then apply FX to new take, or just do the volume automation then freeze.Ĭan do the same with my entire drum buss if I want to. This is huge for me - if I have 15 reverb sends and they are just eating up cycles, all I want to do is control the volume of the return.

record audio through, Freeze - FX sends, Aux tracks, Group busses (can do this in pro tools also) However, although they now have some great (more advanced) features in S1.there are still so many things about it that spell beginner.ġ. Studio One is nicer to work in, feels more professional, everything just works. I didn't play the timeline for any extended period but for a few minutes of testing I didn't see anything. The other example where you send to a buss and then onto a second buss without any plugins also couldn't recreate any phase problems when doing that either ? so long as the gain is matched all tracks null perfectly here. I also tried MJUC compressor (which has dry/wet) with the same routing and it worked without issue.

I'm not sure how that plugin works but it seems like it ignores PDC altogether without linear phase engaged ? i'll try it on some other software when I get a chance. obviously you need to match gain between the two channels but what I get is consistent with no variation. initially it sounded clearly out of phase but when I engaged linear phase button it nulls perfectly. I tried RC and setup routing the same as you described (only difference, I had 3 stereo drum tracks instead of 7 going to the drum buss but that shouldn't matter). Based on what I've read on the Cockos forums, the devs seem to be aware of it and improving PDC is something they're working on. This smells like a PDC management issue to me. After I moved on to other aspects of the mix adding additional plugins, I started to hear the telltale sign of phase issues smearing transients with the drum tracks. The drums sounded fine with my usual parallel compression chains (I use 1-3 parallel comp busses switching between them in different parts of the song) working as per expectation. In a real-world sense, I first experienced this when using parallel compression on a mix. If you then engage the Linear Phase button on the RC, it will either null (the expected result as per Cubase) or it won't - i.e. On the RC set the Wet/Dry to 100% dry and 0% saturation and flip the phase on the parallel channel. The drum bus is then sent to a parallel compression bus with the Royal Compressor on it. The testing setup I'm using is pretty simple: 7 stereo drum tracks are sent to a drum bus (the master send on each track is bypassed).

I'm still getting some erratic results where the phase issues are inconsistent, so it's highly likely latency reporting issues between individual plugins and Reaper that are not present in Cubase. I've done some further testing done today as I'm really reluctant to go back to Cubase world.

If I were to put the royal compressor on a buss and send some drums to it and then record the output of that compression buss will it be out of phase with the original drum tracks ? would this test recreate what you are saying ? if not could you describe exactly how to recreate it. When you say parallel tracks, do you just mean a parallel compression buss ?
